**How can you care?** 'Because I choose to.' **You make it sound so simple.** 'That's because it is simple. Hard sometimes, but simple.'

Ya know, if it was me, a server that ABENDed 3 times on 3 business days in a row might just get pulled out of production until a thorough VREPAIR could be run.

Hurricane watch on SC coast

The bad thing is that these things are starting to form out of nowhere... this one suddenly started up Friday, and has just wandered around off of the Charleston cost. Oh well, we need the rain...

Saturday, August 28, 2004

I really should go the library and volunteer, but I don't think I will.

Panthers vs. Patriots again tonight. Gotta stock up for that.

Peter said to him...
... "What is the sin of this world?"
The Teacher answered:
"There is no sin.
It is you who make sin exist,
when you act according to the habits
of your corrupted nature;
this is where sin lies."

The Gospel of Mary Magdelene, page 7, lines 11 - 19

No wonder the Church doesn't like this gospel. ;-)

Thankfully, the more-complicated-than-they-really-should-be overtime laws do not take away my overtime.

Why they have to make laws about overtime, much less ones that take 6 hour training sessions to figure out, is beyond me.

(posting again, since it keeps not showing up when I look at my blog)

Oh, and I've blown out another set of speakers... I'm rough on them, I know.

Singing love songs to 20 pound cats is something I highly recommend. They love you unconditionally, and let everyone know it by covering you in gold fur.

I think part of my problem is that I'm bored. I'm stuck in FF VIII, in the part where Laguna has to use the gunblade to beat up the dragon. It's moving too fast and the controller is responding too slowly. I tried Xenosaga, but if I want to watch an anime I'll watch one; I wanted to play a game.

I'm not sure what I need right now, other than a swift kick somewhere.

GODDAMN NETFLIX!!!

All of a sudden, an anmie disc that I had in the middle of my list suddenly was not available until later this month, so they took it out of my list. My perfectly organized list. Now I have to re-organize and re-number the thing from 272 to 491.

Well, except for a massive migraine by 5pm, came out OK. Lots of rain, and some downed limbs, but nothing else.

Saturday, August 14, 2004

Went and donated blood this morning, because the supply is so low. 1 pint in less than 6 minutes. ;-)

Back home because the sky keeps getting dark.
Been doing some plotting on Charley. I *THINK* we're going to get lucky, altho I'm not sure about the Myrtle Beach area.

Woke up with a hell of a headache, tho.

From CNN.com - Charley as powerful as Hugo, which killed 82 people and caused $7 billion in damage in 1989

OK, that I really didn't want to see.

Another bad thing is that it looks like it's going to romp across Florida and head into the Atlantic ocean, right down by the SC/GA border. I could still be in trouble if that thing decides to turn in. Charleston is about fucked either way.
Julia Childs has died.

I remember watching her show on PBS growing up. She was incredibly tall, before osteroperosis shrunk her. Rest in peace.

The calm between storms right now. My ears are still sore from the air pressure drop. No power loss yet here at work, but it's a 50/50 chance of me having power when I get home.
The shit is about to hit the fan. I am 3 minutes away from a completely severe unfucking cool thunderstorm. I'm watching this come out from my office window.

See ya on the other side.
There's a tornado about 30 miles NE of me.
Added the Sesame Street levels of terror. ;-)

And hey, I apologized for calling Alex little. I did!

Looks like I'll be getting hit twice in the next week from the tropics. Bonnie will be here tomorrow, and Charlie won't be too far behind.

Joy and rapture.

Stand up
You've got to manage
I won't sympathize
Anymore

chorus:
And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me

You're alright
There's nothing wrong
Self-sufficience, please!
And get to work

(chorus)

You're on your own now
We won't save you
Your rescue-squad
Is too exhausted

(chorus twice)

Bjork's accent makes this all the more bitter. I have several people I could send this to, but won't.

You're Virginia!

Part of the old school, you like both historical sites and crazy
amusement parks. You like saying the word Commonwealth but couldn't really explain the concept or how it applies to your life. You like five-sided shapes, five-cent pieces, and possibly anything else having to do with the number five. Every now and then, you discard chaff from yourself that you just don't feel you need. And since you've been wondering... yes, there is a Santa Claus.

You're
the United Nations!

Most people think you're ineffective, but you are trying to
completely save the world from itself, so there's always going to be a long
way to go.  You're always the one trying to get friends to talk to each
other, enemies to talk to each other, anyone who can to just talk instead of
beating each other about the head and torso.  Sometimes it works and sometimes
it doesn't, and you get very schizophrenic as a result.  But your heart
is in the right place, and sometimes also in New York.

You're Siddhartha!

by Hermann Hesse

You simply don't know what to believe, but you're willing to try
anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you've spent
some time in every camp. But you still don't have any idea what camp you belong in.
This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It's
time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in
faeries.

OK, will someone go to Amazon.com and buy me The Last Samurai soundtrack? Pretty please?

And to the anonymous who reminded me of Shane (SHANE! Babe! Please quit the WWE and come to Wildside! They'll let you do the Vertebreaker!) - Um, I remember watching Shane, in tights and even in those 3 Count pants... Shane is not a little anything, believe me. ;-)

"Alex grew to a Category 2 hurricane this morning, hugging the Carolina coast with 100 mph winds. Forecasters said that as of 11 a.m. EDT, the storm was about 40 miles south-southwest of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and was moving northeast at 15 mph. Forecasters say any motion to the left could bring the center of Alex over the Outer Banks. "
(from CNN.com)

OK, I'm sorry! I apologize for calling you little!
Note to self: do NOT insult trpoical storms by calling them little! This thing gained 40MPH in 24 hours. :-p

OK, Why the fuck won't blogger let me use an img tag? GRRRRR....

What is it with some Southern woman that they are convinced they can't do anything?

In order to uninstall and reinstall GroupWise, you install the cleaning program, run it, then run the GroupWise install. Everything is automatic, all you do it click "Yes" and "Start".

Her response? "I'll probably blow the damn thing up."

Well, yeah, with that attitude, you probably will. :-p
Tam, no, we will not get swept to Oz (or Spira, damnit) with little Alex. But it was a much-needed kick in the butt that said, "HEY, DUMBASS, remember that big ocean over there?!?!?"

I need to get to the beach. :-)

Sandra will be on vacation this week, which means works will actually be quite tolerable.

QuickVote over on CNN.com is asking, "What do you think of the color-coded terror alert level?" Answer are "It's scary", "It's reassuring", and "It's confusing".

How about, "It's stupid", "It's useless", and "It's a complete waste of my time"?
TROPICAL DEPRESSION #1:

.....At 11 p.m. EST on Saturday, Tropical Depression #1 was located at 31.4 N and 78.9 W. This places the center about 115 miles southeast of Charleston, SC. It was moving north-northwest at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of up to 30 mph.

Good grief, where did this thing come from?!?!? Guess I need to start watching the local news more often.

What Color is Your Brain?

At work or in school: I work best by myself. I like to focus on my ideas until my desire for understanding is satisfied. I am easily bored if the subject holds no interest to me. Sometimes, it is hard for me to set priorities because so many things are of interest.
With friends: I may seem reserved. Although my thoughts and feelings run deep, I am uneasy with frequent displays of emotion. I enjoy people who are interesting and of high integrity.
With family: I am probably seen as a loner because I like a lot of private time to think. Sometimes, I find family activities boring and have difficulty following family rules that don't make sense to me. I show love by spending time with my family and sharing ideas and interests.
